PROJECT 1: STAIRS

Stairs inspired by "Shady" and "Rising"

Sketchup Model Stairs:

This are the stairs that lead up to the top level gallery belonging to Ai Weiwei, they are simplified in color in order for attention to be drawn to a number of thick cables that are holding the stair up. This idea is to emphasise how as a structure rises, it needs more support therefore I only allowed several cables to be attached to the stair and top level.

This is the stairs that lead down to the lower gallery belonging to Louise Bourgeois. The concept of "shady" is show by it length, how it cascades down onto the bottom level. It is wide but slim, as a shadow would be. Another platform has been introduced half way through the stair to further show a relationship with "shady", how shadows branch out according to their original objects.

Earlier attempts at stairs: (With corresponding models)
A trial and error session of stairs with different thicknesses.

An application of a "rising" stair onto the second sketchup.
